Tutorial: Liquify Filter and the Fat Cat – Part 1

When Adobe added the Liquify Filter, fo some reason they decided to hide it under the Filter Menu.   It is located in Filter > Liquify.  Shame to make such a powerful tool so hard to find. The Liquify Filter is essential an image warp with fine brush stroke control.  Take a look at what it can do.

1. Masking to protect areas

All of the Tools for the Liquify Filter are located on the left with the Tool Option’s fine adjustments on the right.  If you need to protect an area, simply draw a mask over it with the Freeze Mask Tool.

2. Nudge with the Forward Warp

All of the brush tools can be resized with the to bracket keys just like other Photoshop brushes.  With the Forward Warp selected, I can nudge a few pounds off the kitty.

3. Compress the image with the Pucker Tool

With the sides of cat reduced, it’s now time to compress the cat’s body to match.  I started by redrawing the mask over just the cat’s head.  With the Pucker Tool selected, I enlarged the brush to cover a majority of the cat’s body.  Just a few clicks of the Pucker Tool is all it will take.

4. Reduce the cat’s head to match his new body

One last thing, the cat’s head is a little too big for his new trim body.  Just a tap or two of the Pucker Tool over the cat’s head will do it.

Tomorrow, I will take a Plus Model and make her Super.
